ARTIST STATEMENT
Hi, I’m Vasundhara Deshmukh, and I’ve discovered that my paintbrush is my best conversationalist. Diagnosed with epilepsy back in 11th grade, I found that words often fell short of capturing my inner world. Painting became my language when I realized that sometimes, you need more than just words to express what’s in your heart. With a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and a Master’s in Project Management, you could say I’ve navigated quite a few different landscapes. But art? Art has been my true map and compass.
I’m a self-taught artist who relocated to London for my Master’s, and let me tell you,
being away from home has been like trying to find Wi-Fi in the middle of a desert. It was in this bustling city that I reconnected with painting as a way to process life’s ups and downs. It felt like I had been handed a paintbrush and had my vocabulary erased – a cosmic joke or a divine gift, depending on the day.
I used to dabble in painting, but it wasn’t until London that I started using it as a daily practice. I began to paint my emotions, the struggles of those around me, and the complexities of living with epilepsy. Through each stroke, I learned to navigate these feelings and gain a deeper understanding of them.
I find that my paintbrush is the only tool that allows me to speak my truth without fear – and, believe me, the truth can sometimes be a heavy load.
In essence, my art is my truth, my therapy, and my greatest adventure. It’s where I’m unafraid to lay bare my soul and find a little humor in the chaos. So, join me on this colorful journey, where every painting is a step toward understanding and a testament to the enduring spirit of expression.
